The Best Shop on Earth

Why do you say is Dave's Cycle the best shop on planet Earth? Because it's run by aliens! Don't believe me? Look what happens after hours?

I mean what Earth person would come up with wheels like these? These must be from Mars.

Look, space shoes!

Her name is THELMA!

I picked up a new bike rack this week. Saris's new Thelma. It supports two bikes by their wheels and never touches your frame. I've been using this rack now for a week and it is much more stable than my previous rack that attached to the trunk with straps. The bike doesn't bounce, the wheels don't spin, the handlebars don't twist. It's a rock! It grabs the front wheel in a clam-shell with one strap and the rear wheel with another strap. Takes me about 1 minute to put the bike in and less to take it off.

It attaches to your vehicle with a 1 1/4" or 2" trailer hitch and holds 2 bikes. If you already have a hitch, this is a no brainer. A definite must if you have an uber-expensive bike or killer paint because there's no frame contact. It's a bit more dough than a strap mount rack at $250 suggested retail, but when you're sportin' a $10,000 bike what's another hundred?

Ok, this is our new shop jersey. It perfectly describes my feelings about our collective blog. More to the point, I'm wearing this, and you are all getting dropped.

Can't Help It

I saw this today and it reminded me of the total lack of enthusiasm for this blog. It's been 20 days since the launch and we've got 3 posts and 10 comments. That's pretty sad in my estimation. I write more than that on my Blackberry in the boys room.

Best Bike?

Question, who makes the best bike not only based on performance but also on reliability and ease of maintenance? There are a lot of people on this Blog that know a hell of a lot more about bikes than I so I am asking a question that 1. I will learn something I did not know and 2, will provoke folks who know more than I to answer with gusto. Categories include, Race, Road, Downhill, Mountain, BMX and Hybrids. If you guys can think of any others, pile it on and cast your vote.

Rain Rain Go Away

Ok I've had it. All week all we've done is talk about this new blog for Dave's Cycle. How we all signed up after Robert went to the trouble of setting it up. I've looked ever day or two for the first posting and found nothing. We sure talk a good game. I guess that's like anything else, all talk, no action.

Anyway, I'm sick of it so I'm taking the plunge and writing. I spent the day at the shop in the pouring rain, drinking lattes with Glen, Jesse, Mike & Austin and a rotating cast of regular characters including Will & Jack (that's mountain bike Will, as opposed to road bike Will). I'm not sure what anyone was doing out today. I sold a few pairs of shoes, but none to ducks. It was bad out there. Maybe we could have sold kayaks or gutters or something, but not bikes.

It was a lousy day to be a cyclist in Cos Cob. Roubaix is a different story. Hottest day in the history of the race. Good old Stuart O'Grady finaly won a big one. Good for him. Congrats Stuey. Let's see, 250 kilometers of cobbled roads or lattes at the shop in the rain. Hmm, I have to think about that one.
